Monolingual, a big NO!

20 03 2007

So as I was scouring the blogs as I do all the time with the help of Google Reader and Digg. I came across the story that many people saw about ways to speed up your Mac. So I had done all of them except using a program called Monolingual, which removes extra languages and architectures from the computer.

I remember that I had used this program on my Powerbook a while back, but I didn’t remember anything about it. So after reading the website I downloaded it and ran the program. After it finished I saved 2.5gb is space and my computer seemed to be working just fine.

Then I came into the office the next morning and all hell broke loose. If you decide not to read what happened then take this piece of advice, do NOT use this program.

Parallels on my Macbook Pro w/ Vista

12 03 2007

Since my Macbook Pro only has a 100gb HD (7200rpm variety) I decided that I would install Vista only under Parallels, instead of Bootcamp (as I did with my Mac Pro). I based this decision on the fact that I could use an expanding image for Parallels, meaning that Windows would only take up what it needed, I like that very much indeed. I have had it installed now for about a week, and there is only one problem thus far, Windows will not connect to the internet via Airport (w/ Bridged Network connection), but it works just fine with the Ethernet connection.

Frustrating indeed for a laptop user, trust me on that. I have heard that this is a driver issue but I am not really sure what it is, all I know is that it needs to be fixed. The other problem I am having is that when Parallels is running it really bogs my machine, and heats it up like nobodies business.
