Missing Sync for the iPhone

31 10 2007

WTF, Missing Sync is an application that we used to use in the dark ages before Smartphones natively synced with Macs. But since the invention of the iPhone there really hasn’t been a need for a 3rd party sync program, unless you still use an ancient smartphone like a Treo. So why would you want this then?

Well it offers data migration from another smartphone, stores and logs sms messages, searchable and logged call log, and syncing of notes.

Out of all those features, the notes syncing is the only one that I would be interested in, but not for $40. What about the data mirgration? Isnt one reason you sync with your computer, so that they next phone you get you can just sync and get all that data back? Yes. Had you been using a Mark Space product to sync, you don’t really need this, because all your contacts and calendars are in iCal and Addressbook…so…

Man I don’t see the point, perhaps somebody else does?

My iPhone in Japan

31 10 2007

I took my iPhone to Japan with me, with every intention NOT to use it. After my huge bill in the Bahamas I rented a phone in Japan. But still I was curious, so I pulled it out and turned it on once I got to the hotel. And guess what, “no service” now I did not activate the international plan on my phone this time, but it still struck me as odd that it would say no service. I am not sure what that means.

So the iPhone made for a great iPod while in Japan, but would the Japanese be impressed? I have seen a lot of posts that they will hate it, and so on. I took a look at the phones they have over there, a larger selection than us by far. BUT nothing close to the iPhone.

So I started talking with a friend who lives in the Tokyo area, and I asked them what people there though about it. His response, everyone wants one, and is jealous that they cant have one. In fact he said that when he started work over there a couple of months ago, everyone assumed he had an iPhone because we was American. And everybody wanted to play with it.

Very interesting take on things if you ask me.

I have returned.

22 10 2007

I am back from Japan. I had a great time, with one exception. I had no internet!!!

This was a killer and a pain. The town that I stayed in was very small, so small that the Hotel did not have internet. I used a AT&T wireless card to check emails every other day. Other than that, nothing, until my last night in Japan.

This was something that I was not expecting, and I have missed a lot of things. So look for me to catch up and start posting tomorrow or the next day, I need time to get over the jet lag.

Thanks!

Slow Posting

9 10 2007

Posting will be slow for the next 12 days or so. I will be traveling to Japan for a while, and I expect to have internet, so I will try to post about the technology over there ( I hear the internet is screaming fast). But I am going to a small town at the base of Mt. Fuji, so I may not have the best Internet luck.

Expect regular posting to resume in a little over a week.
